Another pipeline could be built to strengthen the TurkStream pipeline as part of the creation of a gas hub in the country, Ibrahim Kalin, spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said on Friday.
"By making this proposal [to build a gas hub in Turkey], [Russian President Vladimir] Putin saw that a new energy map would be formed in this part of the world in the medium to long term, and Turkey is the most natural geographic location for it," Haberturk TV channel quoted Kalin.
"Now we have TurkStream, it can be strengthened a little and another pipeline can be built, and then an entirely new energy map from east to west and north to south may be created. This is not impossible," he added.
Dmitry Peskov told reporters earlier that the TurkStream gas pipeline has serious potential for expansion if it becomes necessary. "Indeed, Turkey is currently one of the largest recipients of Russian gas. We are connected with Turkey through one of the largest gas pipeline systems, TurkStream, which has serious potential for expansion, if necessary," he said.
