'Turkish Stream' will continue Tesla pipeline in Europe

In the autumn, the foreign ministers of Hungary, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece may create a memorandum on the establishment of the continuation of 'Turkish Stream' gas pipeline to Austria, which will be called Tesla, one of the project participants said.

The meeting is scheduled for September, it is expected that during the meeting they will make a decision on the preparation of a feasibility study, Vedomosti quotes a representative of the Hungarian gas company FGSZ.

The project has already been submitted for review to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG), where it can receive the status of a project of public interest.

The Tesla pipeline, as planned, will begin to operate in 2019.

Sberbank CIB analyst Valery Nesterov, in an interview with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza, drew attention to the fact that Tesla will have to overcome two big obstacles now, before the signing of any documents. "It will be possible to say that the process of the construction of the Tesla gas pipeline is under way only when, firstly, they will get the approval of the European Commission, and that still looks very doubtful, and secondly, funding of project will be provided when the participants in the project, the companies, invest about 30% of the funds, and another 70% are bank loans on solid guarantees and security of assets. The possibility of mobilizing project financing is also very vague," he warned.
