Ibrahim Colak, Ferhat Arican and Ahmet Onder won the gold medal in men's artistic gymnastics team competitions at the 4th Islamic Games in Baku. In an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza, Turkish gymnasts expressed their joy over today's win, noting that it was the first in history when Turkey won gold medal in men's gymnastics at the Islamic Games.
Ferhat Arican stressed that it's a very important win for Turkish team. "We're very happy, because now our team will go to the Olympic Games, which is very good for Turkish gymnastics," he said.
Ahmet Onder noted high competition level at the Islamic Games. "In this sense, they are similar to the first European Games in Baku - competitions are very difficult. But we got the medal and we're very happy about it," he admitted.
The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games are held in Baku from May 8 to 22. Athletes will compete at 16 sports facilities in 20 types of sports - 17 Olympic and three non-Olympic ones. Competitions in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics were included in the program of Islamic Solidarity Games for the first time at the initiative of the First Vice President of Azerbaijan, President of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, Mehriban Aliyeva.
