Turkish parliament needs speaker

The counting board of the Turkish parliament says that none of the four candidates for the post of parliamentary speaker in the election on Tuesday got enough votes in the second round, RIA Novosti reports.

Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz (JDP) got 256 votes, Deniz Baykal (CHP) got 128 votes, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu (MHP) and Dengir Mir Mehmet Fırat (HDP) got 80 votes each.

A candidate needs two thirds of the votes eligible to be cast (367 out of 550) to take the post. The parliament will hold third and fourth rounds of votes if needed, in which a candidate will need at least 276 votes to win.
