Turkish special services foil attempted Istanbul airport attack

Turkish special services have thwarted an attempted terrorist attack at the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, detaining a Kurdish suicide bombing suspect, the Turkish press informed Thursday, Sputnik reports.

Security measures have been expanded to their highest level across Istanbul’s two international airports in response to the threat of terrorist attacks, the Turkish National Police said in a letter circulated on August 24.

The female suspect, as reported by the Sabah newspaper, was detained at the airport after arriving from the southeastern city of Diyarbakir. Her name was given as Ebru Firat and a photograph released by the publication allegedly pictured her next to the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Murat Karayilan.
