Turkmen President adopts new constitution

Turkmen lawmakers unanimously adopted a new constitution extending the presidential term from 5 years to 7 years and lifting a 70-year age ceiling on Wednesday. 

"The adoption of the new Constitution of Turkmenistan marks a new stage in socio-economic and spiritual development of the country. Turkmenistan’s new constitution was designed to meet the international legislative experience based on recognized norms of international law," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said after signing the constitution into law.
