The Turkmen Parliament elected Yazdursun Gurbannazarova as the country's Ombudsman, official media report.
As envisaged by this law, three candidates were nominated for Ombudsman and one was elected by secret ballot, AKIpress reported.
"The activities of the Ombudsman are regulated by the relevant law of Turkmenistan, which meets the country's international obligations in the humanitarian sphere, taking into account the practice and experience of the world's most developed democracies, and creating strong guarantees for the protection of human rights and freedoms by the Ombudsman, their observance and respect by state authorities and officials," the statement said.
