Turkmenistan is marking its Independence Day today. October 27 and 28 are days off in Turkmenistan.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated compatriots on the landmark date.
Earlier, speaking at the meeting of the Council of Elders, he said that more than $144 billion dollars of investments were mastered and directed to production assets during the years of independence, 544 production facilities were put into operation, industrial production increased 7 times, 35 million sq. meters of housing were constructed and put into exploitation.
The country produces more than 35 million tons of cement, which is 4 times more than in 1991. Electricity generation raised by 55.7%. The volume of liquefied natural gas production (LPG) increased by 23 times and the production of fertilizers – 7 times.
The textile industry in 2015 produced 120 thousand tons of cotton yarn and 290 million meters of cotton fabric. That is 24.4 and 7 times more than in 1991. External trade turnover increased by 8 times. Trade relations have been developing with 100 countries of the world.
Mass celebrations are held at the Ashgabat central stadium on occasion of the 25th anniversary of the country's independence. The celebrations will be concluded with the concert and fireworks at the central square of the capital city in front of the state flag.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent congratulations on the 25th anniversary of the country's independence.
"On behalf of the people of Azerbaijan and on my own behalf I sent you and your people the most sincere congratulations on the occasion of the national holiday of Turkmenistan - the Independence Day," the statement says.
Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that the development of the traditional friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan will continue to serve the interests of the two peoples.
Azerbaijani President wished Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov "good health and success in activities, as well as peace and progress to the friendly people of Turkmenistan".
