Twitter suspends 235,000 accounts for promoting terrorism

Twitter suspended 235,000 users in the past seven months for tweets promoting or threatening terrorism, the company announced Thursday.

The social media outlet has booted a total of 360,000 accounts since the middle of 2015 for violating its terrorism policies, Twitter executives said in a blog post. The suspensions jump in the aftermath of every terrorist attack, according to the company.

“We strongly condemn these acts and remain committed to eliminating the promotion of violence or terrorism on our platform. As noted by numerous third parties, our efforts continue to drive meaningful results, including a significant shift in this type of activity off of Twitter,” Twitter execs said.

The company reported an 80% rise in daily account suspensions over 2015, noting its response time to the terror-linked tweets has “decreased dramatically.” Users may argue the suspensions by filing an appeal with the company, NYDailyNews.com reports.
