The Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, confirmed the detention of two U.S. citizens in Russia’s Novorossiysk.
"We confirm the information about the detention of several U.S. citizens. Requests for more details should be addressed to Russian law-enforcement agencies," TASS cited the diplomat as saying.
The U.S. State Department also confirmed the detention.
"We can confirm two U.S. citizens were detained in Novorossiysk, Russia. We have no higher priority than the protection of U.S. citizens abroad. Due to privacy considerations, we do not have any additional information at this time," CNN cited the official as saying.
