U.S. resident becomes disillusioned with his country, considering moving to Yakutsk

A Reddit user from the United State considers becoming a specialist in the Russian language, history and culture in Yakutsk.

"I'm from America. I'm strongly considering immigrating to Russia. Change my mind," he wrote.

The user Beefsweater reminded him of Russia's cold climate and praised local universities. "Yakutsk is very very cold. Not your average Montana or Canada cold. I mean you have to own coat used by arctic explorers. That aside, go for it. The universities are good, albeit it a little old fashioned, but you can certainly do a Russian language class for foreigners and then continue in academia," the user said.

"To start in Yakutsk - think twice. The real winter is a hell harsh. IMO in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok or Kolcovo would be much easier sites for start - winter there is just -40..-20. Other option is Tomsk - close to Novosibirsk with lots of educational facilities as well," the user Micehbos wrote.

The user GreatZeroTaste, in turn, said that he's Australian and thinking of moving there, because it's pretty cheap in Russia.
