U.S. threatens sanctions on Iraq over trade with Iran

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said that violators of the sanctions regime may face sanctions themselves. She commented on Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi's statement about the trade with Iran.

"You know our concerns about Iran and about trading with Iran, and we will continue to hold countries accountable for any violation of sanctions," Nauert told the briefing.

Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi recently said that Iraq will continue trading with Iran, but it won’t use the dollar.

Last week, the Central Bank of Iraq has notified to all banks in the country that using dollars with Iranian banks has been banned.
