Azerbaijan's chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov met with UNHCR's Assistant High Commissioner for Operations George William Okoth-Obbo, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
At the meeting, UNHCR's Assistant High Commissioner for Operations praised Azerbaijan's work on improving conditions for refugees and IDPs.
The aim of the two-day visit is to inspect the activity of the UNHCR office in Azerbaijan and the government`s work to address social problems of the refugees, IDPs and asylum seekers.
The UNHCR delegation was expected to hold meetings with Azerbaijan`s deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, first deputy chief of the State Migration Service Vali Nagiyev and heads of the diplomatic corps, AzerTAc reported.
George William Okoth-Obbo will also meet with the refugees living in the dormitories in Baku and newly built settlements round the city, and get acquainted with the social and technical infrastructure. He will also visit the Refugee Woman and Youth Center under the UNHCR office in Baku and meet with refugees and asylum seekers.
