US-Iraqi cooperation and progress in operation to liberate Mosul from ISIS terrorist group were discussed at the meeting between the US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and the Minister of Defense Arfan al-Hayali, Pentagon Spokesperson Cmdr. Sarah Higgins said.
Mattis visited Baghdad to "meet with coalition commanders and political leaders. The purpose of the visit was to assess progress in the counter-ISIS campaign and discuss the strong US-Iraq defense partnership".
During the meeting the sides affirmed their commitment to continued US-Iraq cooperation and a strong partnership that will enable the Iraqis to deal ISIS a lasting defeat.
