US official: Washington concerned over deployment of S-400 to Crimea

The United States is assessing the security implications of Russia’s latest deployment of S-400 air defenses to Crimea, a senior US official at the US military’s European Command said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"It’s not good. It doesn’t bode well. We certainly are paying attention to it and what that means, as far as the security of the Black Sea," Reuters cited an official as saying.

Russia’s deployment added a second division of S-400 surface-to-air missiles in Crimea. It deployed its first division of S-400s in the spring of 2017 near the port town of Fedosia.

The new division will be based next to the town of Sevastopol and will control the airspace over the border with Ukraine.
