The provocations of the United States triggered the development of the crisis situation in the north-west of Syria, where Turkey launched an operation against the Kurds, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.
"The main factors that contributed to the crisis development in this part of Syria were the US provocative steps aimed at isolating areas with mainly Kurdish population,” the defense department said, adding that Ankara's extremely negative reaction was due to Washington's statements about the ‘border forces’ in the regions neighbouring Turkey
