US sanctions draw countries closer, Raisi says

US economic sanctions only bring countries closer together, and therefore are ineffective, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said.

The US sanctions policy is doomed to failure, he said in an interview with CBS.

By imposing sanctions, the US "forces (countries) to come closer, strengthening their unity. And this makes US sanctions ineffective," the Iranian leader said.
