US seeks to resume New START treaty dialogue with Russia

According to Gennady Gatilov, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Washington would like to restore dialogue with Moscow on disarmament.

"The American delegation has recently intensified its participation in the Conference on Disarmament. Their rhetoric toward Russia has shifted noticeably, with broad anti-Russian accusations related to the Ukrainian crisis have ceased", 

Gennady Gatilov said.

The diplomat added in an interview with Izvestia that while Washington seeks restored working-level cooperation, current bilateral contacts remain limited.

This follows Russia's September proposal to extend New START provisions for one year post-expiration if reciprocated, which US President Donald Trump called "a good idea."
