US wants to find areas of mutual cooperation with Russia

The US administration wants to find areas of mutual cooperation with Russia, US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a briefing on Thursday.

She noted that the southwest Syria cease-fire brokered by the United States, Russia and Jordan is holding.

"That ceasefire, to my understanding, is still holding. But for about that period of time in southwestern Syria, this is one that was negotiated between the United States, Russia, and other places. And the point of that was to find an area of cooperation where the United States and Russia could find," Nauert stressed.

According to her, the US has a low-level relationship with Russia, but Washington wants to find areas of mutual cooperation where they can work together. "And this is one area," she said.

The ceasefire in southwestern Syria entered into force on July 9.
