Updated Latin-based script for Kazakh language approved

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed amendments to the previous decree on adoption of the Latin-based scrip for the Kazakh language.

Nazarbayev issued the decree on the switch of the Kazakh language from Cyrillic to the Latin-based alphabet consisting of 32 letters on October 26, 2017. The change is expected to be fully effective by 2025, AKIpress reported.

The alphabet had many apostrophes, which, according to experts, complicated reading and writing.
