Uzeyir Hajibeyli's memorial day

November 23 marks the anniversary of the death of founder of Azerbaijani classical music Uzeyir Hajibeyli.

He was a composer, scientist, writer, social activist and the creator of the first opera in the Islamic world, Leyli and Majnun (1908). Uzeyir Hajibeyli was born in the city of Agjabadi in Azerbaijan on September 18, 1885. 

In 1937 he wrote the opera Koroğlu, and later he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR.

Uzeyir Hajibeyli died on November 23, 1948.

The 7th International Music Festival dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli will be held in Baku from September 18 to 28 with the help of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry.

This year, the festival will feature famous conductors and soloists, young artists, and bands from Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Syria, Italy, Canada, Italy and Turkey, Trend reports.
