 Valentina Matviyenko: Russian-Azerbaijani relations mutually beneficial and built on mutual respect

Russian-Azerbaijani relations are developing dynamically in many areas, Chairperson of Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko said following the talks with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reported.

"Today, President Ilham Aliyev once again stressed that Azerbaijan is the most reliable partner of Russia, and I agree with him that the high level of our relations must be supported by deeds, especially since we have achieved good results in the trade-economic, energy and humanitarian spheres", she said in the first place.

"Last September, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made an official visit to Russia. This is an important event in our bilateral relations. During this visit, 15 important documents were signed, which created the prospect for expanding our cooperation until 2024. It is important that the Russian-Azerbaijani ties are mutually beneficial, based on mutual respect, friendship and mutual consideration of interests. This creates exemplary mutually beneficial partnership relations for other states that have reached the level of strategic partners," the chairperson of Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly noted.

Speaking about the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia in the humanitarian sphere, Matviyenko noted that First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation make huge contribution to the development of relations in this sphere.

Speaking about the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, she stated that there is no military solution to the conflict. "It can be settled by only peaceful, diplomatic means.  As a mediator, Russia is doing everything to find a compromise. Russia's position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is intelligible and consistent. We discussed this issue at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, it is extremely important to find a solution to the conflict, it was would be a great political and diplomatic success," the chairperson of the Federation Council concluded.
