Georgian authorities had to close the road at the 16-kilometer Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars (Georgian Military Road) highway, connecting Georgia and Russia, for all types of vehicles due to heavy snow and danger of avalanches, Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia reported.
This information was confirmed by duty officer of Russia's Emergencies Ministry North Ossetia department, noting that the Military Georgian Road is closed for all types of vehicles because of worsening of weather conditions.
Closure of the Military Georgian Road at the Vladikavkaz-Lars section affected the traffic: over 97 large trucks are waiting for favorable weather conditions.
Drivers are advised to wait stay in local hotels.
Today, the Georgian Military Road is the only land route connection Russia not only to Georgia, but also to Armenia.
