Vice President Mike Pence accepts Republican Party nomination

Mike Pence has formally accepted the Republican vice-presidential nomination for the November 3 election.

Standing at the entry to Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Pence addressed the Republican National Convention during a turbulent time, with Hurricane Laura bearing down on Texas and Louisiana and the coronavirus pandemic continuing to upend daily life.

He sought to mix an optimistic tone about the successes under President Donald Trump with a slashing attack against Joe Biden and the Democrats.

"So with gratitude for the confidence president Donald Trump has placed in me, the support of our Republican Party and the grace of god, I humbly accept your nomination to run and serve as vice president of the United States," The New York Times cited Pence as saying.
