Vyacheslav Volodin appointed State Duma Speaker

Vyacheslav Volodin has been confirmed as the new speaker of the Russian State Duma. His candidacy was supported by 404 members of the Duma.

Dmitry Novikov was supported by 40 members.

The candidate was supported by the United Russia, which has a constitutional majority in parliament.

Since 2011, Volodin has held the post of first deputy head of the presidential administration.
