The World Health Organization (WHO) expects more infectious COVID-19 strains to emerge. This was stated by WHO expert Maria Van Kerkhove.
"We expect that more variants [of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus] will be identified and they are likely to be more contagious", TASS quoted her.
At the same time, the organization's representative noted that experts do not know yet whether infection with new strains will lead to a more severe course of the disease or not.
Let us remind you that the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Today, the number of people infected with COVID-19 worldwide exceeds 529 million, of which more than 6.2 million people have died.
