Washington plans to deepen relations with Turkmenistan

The United States looks forward to broadening and deepening its relationship with Turkmenistan on the basis of these candid and constructive conversations, a press service of the US State Department said following the negotiations with the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, in Washington.

The meeting was attended by the US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken, US Assistant Secretary for Arms Control, Verification and Compliance, Rose Gottemoeller, and the US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs, Nisha Desai Biswal. Antony Blinken and Rashid Meredov discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues, and Rose Gottemoeller and Meredov focused on regional security and energy issues.

During the consultations, participants discussed "all aspects of the US-Turkmenistan relationship, including political developments, regional stability and security, human rights and labor, religious freedom, education, cultural cooperation and exchanges, and economic development and trade," TASS reports.
