Azerbaijan gymnastics managed to achieve incredible results over the past ten years, said Yani Tanskanen, a member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG), in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza.
"Over tha past years Azerbaijan has played an important role in the world of gymnastics. The country hosts many competitions, tournaments, meetings, and it's well received all over the world. Of course, the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation is very young, but the past 10 years have been incredible in terms of the level of gymnastics it has achieved," he stressed.
"I want to say thank them for organizing so many events. They were very well organized. And the gymnastic community is grateful for that," he said.
Commenting on the upcoming elections of head of the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG), at which Farid Gaibov, secretary general of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, will be one of the candidates, Yani Tanskanen said: "I think that new president will be elected on the basis of trust and work he done in the past. He will rise to the level of continent and will do the same job. That's how I see the elections."
According to him, the meeting of FIG's Executive Committee discussed the development of new rules. During this discussion, members of the committee have focused on the safety of athletes. "We don't want to increase the risk for athletes," he said.
