Year without summer in Moscow

A specialist of the weather center ‘Phobos’ Evgeniy Tishkovets predicts that we should not wait for summer in Central Russia. "In my opinion, there will be no summer in Central Russia," he said.

"By and large, in the next week, there will be short rains," the specialist of Phobos said.

The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation Vladimir Puchkov, in turn, warned that various natural disasters are possible in Russia in July. In particular, he spoke about the threat of sudden temperature changes, strong winds and precipitation.

The 15th of June was the coldest summer day in Moscow over the past 138 years: the actual weather was 9.5 degrees by Celcium. The 30th of June was the wettest in terms of average precipitation - 65 mm (84% of one month's rainfall ).

On June 30, a massive thunderstorm around Moscow has killed at least one person, injured several others and forced scores of planes to divert to other airports.

The chief specialist of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Marina Makarova, speaking with the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza, noted that the June turned out to be unusually cold for a significant part of European Russia.

The cold beginning of the summer is explained by the troposphere trough. "The spread of cold air masses, formed over the basins of the Barents, Norwegian and Greenland seas, to the southern regions of Russia caused heavy rains, thunderstorms and squally winds. Too much cloudiness limited the daytime heating of the air, so this June was cold," Marina Makarova explained.

She also added that there is another source of cold - the high layers of the atmosphere. "The trough of a wave ensures the flow of cool air from above, from a height of 4-5 km. This air may decrease by only 200m to make low temperature noticeable," she said.

The Hydrometeorological Center forecast July weather to be within normal parameters. "In the European territory of the country, with the exception of the Komi Republic and the Perm Territory, the temperature will be within and above normal parameters." In Moscow, the temperature is expected to be close to normal (13-14 degrees at night and 23 degrees during the day). Highs of around 20-22 degrees are expected in Moscow tomorrow. Then the temperature will decrease again. It is due to the prevalence of cyclonic weather with rain, in some areas they can be accompanied by thunderstorms. We expect the temperature will gradually increase from Sunday and by the middle of the month the negative anomaly will go away," the chief specialist of the Hydrometeorological Center assured.
