Yerevan hosts opening of Moscow State University branch

The opening ceremony of the Yerevan branch of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov has been held in Yerevan. The ceremony was attended by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and the rector of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, Viktor Sadovnichy.

It is reported that classes at the new branch were started on September 1st. Moscow State University will train specialists in five areas: applied mathematics and computer science, international relations, law, linguistics and journalism.

The director of the Yerevan branch, Alexei Polosin, said that a faculty of economics will also be opened soon.

"All profile subjects are conducted by teachers from Moscow. Curricula and materials, working programs, conducting of tests and examinations are the same as in Moscow. We provide the same level of teaching as our main high school," he added.

Polosin noted that the Armenian authorities are doing everything possible to make the stay of the Moscow professionals comfortable. It is reported that the places in the Yerevan branch of the Moscow State University will be mainly contractual and every citizen of the country who successfully passes the entrance exams and competitions can study here. In addition, the Armenian government subsidizes 15 budget-funded places for citizens of the republic only.

"According to the examiners of the State University, we've been able to get a decent level of students in Yerevan," Polosin concluded.
