The Armenian authorities use sport as a political tool, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Leyla Abdullayeva said in response to CNN sports channel’s question about non-participation of FC Arsenal’s player of Armenian origin in the UEFA European League Final in Baku and the position of the Armenian Foreign Ministry on this issue.
The diplomat reminded about the guarantees of security for all participants of the finals and fans, which were provided to UEFA by the official structures of Azerbaijan and the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has repeatedly voiced its position on the incompatibility of politics and sports.
