Today the head of Ingushetia, Hero of the Russian Federation, Major General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov celebrates his 53rd birthday. Vestnik Kavkaza congratulates Yunus-Bek Bamatgireevich on his birthday and wishes him good health, long years and success in his work as the head of Ingushetia.
The head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdullatipov sent Yevkurov his congratulations. "Today my dear neighbor and friend Yunus-Bek Yevkurov celebrates his birthday. Dear Yunus-Bek Bamatgireevich, since you had become leader of Ingushetia you managed to do a lot of things to ensure prosperity and safe lives, to create conditions for dynamic development of the republic. I wish you good health, inexhaustible energy, and I hope you will succeed in all your plans and initiatives aimed at strengthening social and economic potential of Ingushetia for the good of our Motherland - Russia," Kommersant quoted him as saying.
Yevkurov, was born on July 30, 1963, into a peasant family. Yevkurov was conscripted by the Soviet Army in 1982, serving in the Naval Infantry of the Pacific Fleet. In 1989, he graduated from the Ryazan School of Airborne Troops. Yevkurov continued his military education, graduating from the Frunze Military Academy in 1997 and from the General Staff Academy in 2004.
Yevkurov has had various positions of command within the Russian Airborne Troops and has participated in counterterrorist operations in the North Caucasus. In 2000, he was in command of the 217th Guards Airborne Regiment (98th Guards Airborne Division).
On April 13, 2000, Yevkurov, for his courage, was presented with the Hero of Russia award, the country's highest title of honor. In 2004, Yevkurov was appointed to be the Intelligence Division Deputy Commander of the Volga-Urals Military District. On October 30, 2008, Yevkurov replaced Murat Zyazikov as the head of Ingushetia, and in 2013 he was elected for the second term.
