The Inter-Syrian meeting in Astana on Syria scheduled for January 23 should become a new milestone on the way towards peace in that country, Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
"We expect the Astana meeting to become a new milestone on the way towards peace and give an impetus to constructive work of all the sides for resuming the political process in Geneva," TASS cited her as saying.
According to her, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Jordanian top diplomat Nasser Judeh will discuss the situation in Syria and Iraq in Moscow on January 16.
"The parties will discuss the pressing issues on international and regional agenda paying special attention to the numerous conflicts the Middle East has been facing," the diplomat added.
