Zakharova: Moscow welcomes the agreements reached between Iran and the IAEA

Russia welcomes the agreements reached between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a commentary on Thursday.

Iran and the IAEA agreed to continue cooperation on safeguards issues, including the exchange of information and contacts of experts, providing Tehran with a sample of CCTV cameras used by the agency for the necessary analysis, and reinstalling such cameras at the plant for the production of centrifugal rotors in Karaj.

"We welcome these agreements. We support mutual commitment  of the IAEA and Iran to continue cooperation both within the framework of a comprehensive safeguards agreement and in accordance with the requirements of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the settlement around the Iranian nuclear programme and in the light of UNSC Resolution 2231", the representative of the MFA noted.

According to Zakharova, good news is now needed to stimulate the onward course of negotiations on the restoration of the full implementation of the JCPOA resumed in Vienna on November 29, which are going on almost continuously.

Moscow expects that by joint efforts "it will also be possible to overcome the tension around the Iranian nuclear program, which is fully compatible with the interests of nonproliferation and strengthening security at the regional and global levels", the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
