Azerbaijan hosts International Mugham Festival

Azerbaijan opened the International Mugham Festival at the International Mugham Center on March 14, entitled “The World of Mugham”, Trend reports.


President of the Heydar Aliyev Fund, goodwill ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO and member of parliament Mehriban Aliyeva and  Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Fund Leila Aliyeva were at the festival.
Mehriban Aliyeva said at the opening that Mugham and Nowruz have factors connecting them. They both have an old history, tradition and innovation.


She said that the Heydar Aliyev Fund hosted the First Mugham Festival in Baku two years ago. This year the festival will see symposiums, classic performances, symphonic performances, Mugham operas and ethno-jazz.

The Heydar Aliyev Fund will hold several music festivals named after Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Gara Garayev and Mstislav Rostropovich.


The current festival is peculiar for coinciding with the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijani independence. The country is realizing major programs in culture. Theaters, museums and concert halls are being renovated. New cultural centers and music schools are being opened. Azerbaijan pays great attention to preserving literature, poetry, music, carpentry, visual art and architecture.

Members of parliament, foreign diplomats, cultural and artistic figures attended the opening. Guests arrived from the USA, Turkey, China, Iran, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco and other states
