Moscow is hosting the Second International Festival of Mistislav Rostropovich, the late, famous cello player and conductor. The festival opened yesterday. The Russian National Orchestra and the State Academic Choir of Sveshnikov made the first performances at the festival. The Ninth Symphony of Beethoven was played at the hall named after Tchaikovsky, ITAR-TASS reports.
There will be three days of performances at the new stage of the Bolshoi Theater. The American Ballet Theater will perform. The last time it visited Moscow was 50 years ago. US dancers will show a premiere of a new performance dedicated to Rostropovich.
