Krasnodar opens “Orthodox Ossetia” exhibition

The History and Archaeology Open-Air Museum named after Felitsyn saw the first day of a “Orthodox Ossetia” exhibition today, Yuga.ru reports.


The exhibition was organized with assistance from the Ministry of Culture and Communication of North Ossetia-Alania, the National Museum of North Ossetia-Alania, the eparchies of Vladikavkaz and Makhachkala and blessed by the Metropolitan of Yekaterinodar and Kuban Isidor.


The exposition gives a view on history from the 1st century AD, when St. Andrew the First-Called was preaching at the city of Fust. Christianity spread intensively in the 17th century. The eparchy of Alania was founded at the center of Nizhny Arkhyz in the 11th century.The oldest Russian baptistery is at Nizhny Arkhyz, in the North Zelenchuksky Temple of St. George the Victorious.


One of the highlights of the exhibition is part of an 11th-century wall-painting of Zrugsky Temple. It is the only Medieval example of Ossetian writing.


The exhibition also demonstrates a model and items of the Rekom sanctuary. The sanctuary is a combination of Medieval oral tradition of Alanians and Ossetians and Christiandom. The exhibition has a record of an interview with the head of Ossetian temples and monasteries and films about Caucasian sanctuaries.


Rector of the Uspensky Church at Mozdok Archpriest Artemy Ponomarenko, rector of the Church of Alexander Nevsky Amvrosy Didenko, Deputy Minister of Culture and Communications of the North Ossetia-Alania Soslan Mansurov, Director General of the National Museum of the North Ossetia-Alania Larisa Sokhiyeva and deputy head of the department of culture in Krasnodar Territory Galina Solyanina were at the opening.
