A republican festival "Dagestani families of different nationalities" took place today at the Kumyk Theater in Makhachkala. The festival is held as part of the framework of the republican target program "Development of National Relations in the Republic of Dagestan in 2011-2015” and is timed to mark International Family Day, which is celebrated annually on May 15, RIA Dagestan reports.
Festival organizers noted that one of the main objectives of the Republican House of Folk Arts of the Dagestani Ministry of Culture is to preserve, revitalize and convey to future generations all the unique charm of folk songs, dances and musical instruments.
Dagestan has more than 120 family ensembles at present.
