Armenia marks anniversary of independence

Armenia is marking the 20th anniversary of independence today. The Supreme Council of the USSR organized a referendum on independence on September 21, 1991, News Armenia reports.


Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited a military parade, commanded by General-Colonel Yuri Khachaturov, head of the Main Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces. Defense Minister Seyran Oganyan attended the parade. About 4,000 servicemen and over 300 vehicles were at the parade.


S-300 anti-missile complexes and Krunk drones were demonstrated. Krunks are medium-class drones. 60% of drones belong to the class.


The minister greeted servicemen of the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia.

Some media speculated about the 102nd base. The press secretary of the Defense Ministry, David Karapetyan, responded to the statements.


Thousands of Armenians arrived from foreign states to mark the anniversary.


Modern Armenia can be considered the third republic, the first two existed in 1918-1920 and 1920-1991.
