Muslims mark Ashura Day

Muslims are marking the Day of Ashura on Tuesday, According to the Quran, this is the day when the Heavens, Earth, angels and the first man, Adam, were created. The Apocalypse will also occur this day.


Fasting on this day is not recommended by Sunnis and is obligatory for Shiites. It coincides with the prayers for Muhammad Hussein ibn Ali (626 – 680) who died for his faith on this day. He was the second son of Prophet Muhammad’s second daughter Fatima.


The Day of Ashura was related to transfer of Adam to heaven and his repentance of since. Allah sent his ten commandments on this day.


Azerbaijan, where most Muslims are Shiites, has charity actions of blood donation. The Caucasus Muslim Administration calls for blood donations to save people suffering from thalassanemia.


Chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Administration Sheikh ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh called for mutual respect and respect for law. He reminded about the fatwah published on November 24 on start of the Magerram and announced the start of Magerram on November 27, 2011, and the Ashura Day on December 6.


13 mosques of Azerbaijan are having voluntary blood donation, supported by the Healthcare Ministry.
