Azerbaijan has become the first CIS state to start digital TV broadcasting, Nusheirevan Magerramli, Chairman of the National TV Broadcasting Council of Azerbaijan, said, 1news.az reports.
Digital TV broadcasting will reduce the number of frequencies and electricity use.
The state channel AzTV broadcasts over 90-95% of territory, other channels cover 70-75%. Digital television will allow all channels to be broadcast equally, Magerramli said, adding that digital broadcasting will introduce new tendencies to the country's TV.
The Deputy Minister for Communications and Information Technologies, Iltimas Mamedov, noted that digital broadcasting is an important step in the development of Azerbaijani television.
