Cell-caves found in Kabardino-Balkaria

Cell-caves of an ancient monastery, which had been functioning since the second century BC by the end of the 14th century, have been found by Maria and Viktor Kotlyarov near Nalchik, sk-news.ru reports.

Viktor Kotlyarov said that near the village of Zayukovo in the Baksan district of Kabardino-Balkaria, cell-caves were found. According to the local population, narrow vertical pits were in some of the rooms, asumed to be water wells.

Sergey Dudayev, a doctor of history from Armavir, defined the complex as a unique monument, as a result of which archeologists will write bright new pages in the history of the whole North Caucasus.

According to experts, the Zyukovo complex could become one of the sightseeing attractions for the future tourist cluster of the North Caucasus region.
