"Kinotavr" film festival opening in Sochi

The 21st open film festival "Kinotavr" is opening in Sochi, RIA Novosti reports. Vladimir Putin, the prime minister of the Russian Federation, has sent an official greeting to its participants.

Last year the festival opened with a film miscellany created by 5 Russian directors. This year it is a miscellany as well, entitled "Moscow, I Love You", consisting of 18 short stories of various genres. The directors are Yegor Kanchalovski, Georgi Natanson, Alla Surikova, Irakli Kvirikadze, Vera Storozheva, Rustam Ibrahimbekov, Georgi Parajanov, Nana Jorjadze, Oleg Fomin, Ivam Okhlobystin, Yekaterina Dvigubskaya, Vasili Chiginski, Artyom Mokhalkov and others.

Director Gleb Panfilov will be the first to receive the prize - "For artistic contribution to Russian cinematography".

There are 14 movies in the main programme of the festival: "Guest Worker" by Dmitri Mamulia, "To Live" by Yuri Bykov, "Golden Section" by Sergei Debizhev, "Who am I?" by Klim Shipenko, "Reverse Movement" by Andrei Stempkovki, "Yellowhammers" by Alexei Fedorchenko, "Truce" by Svetlana Proskurina, "The Missing" by Anna Fenchenko, "Satisfaction" by Anna Matison, "Elephant" by Vladimir Karabanov, "MyLuck" by Sergei Loznitsa, "Man at the Window" by Dmitri Meskhiyev and "Natural Phenomena" by Alexander Lungin and Sergei Osipyan.

The jury of the festival will be led by the director-general of the film concern "Mosfilm", Karen Shakhnazarov, other names are Yuri Korotkov, Natalya Nusiniva, Maxim Osadchiy, Ivan Okhlobystin, Irina Rakhmanova and Joel Chapron.

There are 8 debuts in the main program which is a relatively new phenomenon for the festival.

There is also a movie by Russian director Yuri Loznitsa, who is representing Ukraine with his film "My Luck" which participated in the Cannes film festival.

There are 19 movies in the short film section. These are: "Adaptation" by Viktoria Smirnova, "White White Day" by Rustam Mosafir, "Bingo" by Timur Ismailov, "Liaisons Dangereuses" by Anton Bilzho, "Two Hours" by Ramunė Čekuolytė, "Two" by Yulia Maximova, "Splinter" by Robert Davidyan, "Green Fields" by Vsevolod Brodsky, "Kolyan" by Konstantin Smirnov, "Gastello's Face" by Roman Zimin, "Mama" by Ilya Kazankov, "The Last Day of Bulkin I.S." by Alexey Adrianov, "Prevention of Repeated Crimes" by Filipp Abryutin, "Rakokhod" by Nikolay Sokolov, "Like Waiting for a Bus" by Ivan Tverdovski, "Boiling Point"  by Yulia Bogorad, "I Want to Stay with You" by Nigina Sayfullayeva, "Shene" by Asya Verovskaya and "It seems to have passed but maybe not" by Maxim Zykov.


The jury of the short film section is led by Alexei Popogrebski.

The main prize in the section is 125 thousand rubles and enough "Kodak" film for a feature film.
 

There is also the section ""Summer Euphoria" where films between fiction and documentary will be shown. There are films like"Vinogradov Dubosarski: A picture to order" by Eugeni Mitta and Alexander Sheyn, "Miner's Day" by Andrei Gryazev, "How I Ended This Summer" by Alexei Popogrebski, "Short Tragedies" by Irina Yevteeva,
"Mama" by Yelena and Nikolai Renardov and "Tabakov. A Reflection" by Kirill Serebryannikov.

The festival will close with a screening of Vladimir Motyl's "Crimson Color of Snowfall". The director passed away in February, and he will be posthumuously awarded with the prize "For contributions to Russian culture".

The name of the winner of grand-prix, 625 thousand rubles, will be known an June, 13th.
