Monitoring in Azerbaijan’s Gobustan Natural Reserve has revealed a crack in Mount Kichik Dag, 56 km away from Baku. A crack 150-180 meters long, 1-2 meters wide and 10-30 meters deep was found, APA cites Shaig Niftiyev, Chief Engineer of the Expedition of Complex Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology of the Ministry for Ecology and Natural Resources.
The specialist said that the crack was caused by heavy snowfall in January-March and erosion. He recommends the limestone layer on the south-eastern side of the mountain to be removed to stop the process.
