Baku may host Armenian film festival

Political analist Zardusht Alizade plans to host an Armenian film festival in Azerbaijan. The expert came up with the idea after a failure of Armenian human rights activist Georgy Vanyan to host an Azerbaijani film festival in Armenia, 1news reports.

Alizade has no doubts that the Azerbaijani film festival was ruined by political forces struggling to keep status quo in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, those who make profit from sales of weapons and humanitarian aid. Solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict needs breaking stereotypes, art is the best way to do this, he believes.

Vestnik Kavkaza reported earlier that Gyumri was to host a festival of Azerbaijani films, organized by Vanyan. But the local authorities and the population protested. Gyumri Mayor Vardan Gukasyan and parliamentary candidate Arman Saakyan were the main escalators of protests, threatening to physically punish organizers of the film festival.
