A press conference on the eve of the Muslim Magomayev singing competition took place
in Moscow today. The competition starts this Saturday. It will
take place in Crocus City Hall, also named after Muslim Maogmayev.
There will be 17 participants from 10 countries of the world who will
present to the jury their talent and skills.
The organizer of the Foundation of Magomayev's heritage, Aras Agalarov,
stressed that there were about 230 applications for the competition and those
chosen went through a very difficult selection process. He compared the
upcoming competition to sport, where equal opportunities are given
to all participants, but only the strongest wins. The Grand Prix of the
competition is $20,000, the award for second place is $10,000 and
$5000 for third.
This year the jury includes prominent musicians and art figures
from Russia, Azerbaijan, Italy and Latvia: Elena Obraztsova, Laima
Vaikule, Farhad Shamsi oglu Badalbeyli, Dmitry Bertman, Lev Leshchenko
and Vincenzo de Vivo.
