Azerbaijani Studies Department to be opened in Italian oldest university

The Department of Azerbaijani Studies will start functioning at the Department of History of Eastern Europe from January 2013 on the basis of the agreement signed with one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe - Sapienza University of Rome, Trend cites the Azerbaijani foreign ministry as saying today.

Moreover, the agreement was reached to publish two books about Azerbaijan in the Italian language within the cooperation with the University. The first book about our country in the Italian language - "Azerbaigian: una lunga storia" (Azerbaijan: ancient history) has been already published. It was prepared by the teachers of the University under the leadership of Vice-Rector of the Sapienza University, Professor Antonello Biagini. In this book, Azerbaijan has been described from ancient times to the present day. It contains the detailed information about its culture and literature.

The University plans to prepare a collection in late October on the basis of the documents about the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, stored in Italy's archives.
