Moscow Muslims request president for permission to build mosques

Co-chair of the Russian Mufti Council Nafigullah Ashirov said that Muslims will file a request to Russian President Vladimir Putin to build mosques, Russian News Service reports.

Locals of districts where Muslims want to build mosques have been protesting against the construction plans. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that the Cathedral Mosque was enough for the Muslim community. He recommended Muslims to use stadiums or open-air places for meetings.

According to the mayor, only 10% of visitors of the Cathedral Mosque were Moscow residents.
