Metropolitan of Volokolamsk Ilarion, head of the section for foreign church relations of the Moscow Patriarchy, said at a meeting with Abkhaz President Alexander Ankvab and spokesman of the Georgian Orthodox Church Metropolitan of Borzhomi and Bakuriani Seraphim that settlement of problems in relations Orthodox clerics, Abkhaz believers and the Georgian Orthodox Church was only possible by following canons, News Georgia reports.
Ankvab emphasized that spiritual ties of Abkhaz and Georgian clerics had been lost long ago and could not be restored.
Seraphim noted the importance of the peacekeeping mission of the church.
