UNESCO proclaims Afghanistan's Ghanzi capital of Islamic culture

UNESCO has proclaimed the Afghan town of Ghanzi the capital of Islamic Culture in 2013, RIA Novosti reports on Saturday.

The official ceremony was held today in Ghanzi, 145 km from Kabul, and was attended by representatives of UNESCO and the Afghan government.

The decision has been made on the framework of the programme adopted by the sixth Islamic conference of culture ministers held in Baku in 2009, the news agency informs.
